Dental Anesthesiology Program Description

The two-year residency program in dental anesthesiology accepted its first residents in July, 2010.  The program, which has received provisional accreditation from the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), is currently accepting two residents per year.  It is one of only 11 such programs in North America.

Residents are fully integrated into the operating room activities of the Medical Center’s Department of Anesthesiology where they participate in the full spectrum of anesthesia care delivery.  In addition, they participate in the provision of intravenous sedation to patients treated in the Department of Dental Medicine.  These opportunities provide a very extensive clinical experience.   In addition, there are off-service rotations as well as a strong didactic component which multiple lectures and journal clubs throughout the week.  Residents are encouraged to participate in scholarly research.  They are also provided opportunities for self-teaching in the medical center’s on-site library.

The program is directed by Dr. Robert M. Peskin, a dentist anesthesiologist with more than 30 years of clinical and teaching experience.
